Squirrels in Homes

Squirrels will typically take up shelter in the attic of a home or the soffit area located under the roof overhang, during the spring and fall season.  Typically there is one male and one female assuming littermates from last year are not still hanging around.

The female squirrels have had their spring litters. By now the pups can be seen running around the neighborhood.

Hiring a professional wildlife control operator is imperative.  They will be able to determine if the squirrels are still living in the home or have left the nest site and are simply returning for the occassional visit. There is one thing for sure, if you did not have the squirrels professionally removed in spring they will more than likely be returning in the fall to winter there.

Squirrels can do a lot of damage.  If you hear squirrels in the attic area or observe squirrels on your roof call CWC at 952-212-0843 to have the animals removed and relocated to suitable habitat.

Raccoons in Homes

Raccoons are known rabies carriers.  They are strong animals that can be very aggressive.

Most raccoons are infected with roundworms.  The worms, about the size of a normal earthworm, live in the animal's stomach.  Millions of microscopic roundworm embryos are excreted via the feces of the raccoon daily.

Pets, humans and especially children can become infected by touching soil containing roundworm embryos.  The typical hand to mouth scenario is the most common way to become infected.

The second method of human infection happens when the raccoon feces are disturbed to the extent that the disturbance send thousands of roundworm embryos into the air where they may then be inhaled by humans there by becoming infected.  Fortunately this type of infection is rare and can be eliminated by simply leaving contaminated areas alone.

If the infected matter is located in an area that is not a threat to children or pets such as an attic, it is best to leave it undisturbed. The Minnesota Health Department and the Center for Disease Control seem to agree it is best to leave these areas undisturbed. The general concensus is that the infected matter will become inert in less than one year.

Raccoon roundworm embryos can survive a surprisingly long time; especially in warmer climates.  If left alone the embryos, in time, will die and no longer present a health hazard.

Roundworm infection can be difficult for doctors to diagnose; simply because they aren't even looking for it.

Once a human is infected and diagnosed as having roundworms.  Treatment is limited.  Often people suffer long periods of time, reducing the person's quality of life.

If you think you have raccoons or squirrels in your attic or under your porch call CWC at 952-212-0843 to have the animals removed and relocated to suitable habitat.
