Now is the time when squirrels and raccoons will begin to chew, scratch and tear into our homes and attics to den up for the winter.
If not professional removed, they will have their litter in the spring season doing tremendous damage to home and property.
Call CWC (952-212-0843) if you hear noises in the attic; or if you observe an animal on your roof top.
"You’d think a wild animal like the raccoon would prefer to raise its young in the wild. Not so. The adaptable furbearer will just as soon use a chimney as a hollow tree for a nursery. And that marvel of adaptability turns out to be a pain in the flue for Twin Cities homeowners whose chimneys become raccoon maternity wards...Attics are another place where raccoons like to den up." ~ MN DNR
"Raccoons Carry Deadly Parasite"
"The parasitic nematode lives harmlessly in the stomach of about 50 percent of the raccoons in Minnesota and perhaps as many as 75 percent in some other parts of the country, says Moertel. The worm can pass into people who touch raccoon feces and then touch their mouth or food. The nematode "has to be introduced into the intestinal tract so it can hatch," Moertel said. Children are susceptible because they play on the ground and often put their hands in their mouth." ~ Minnesota Conservation Volunteer
Gray squirrels, red squirrels and even opossums also favor residential attics for their spot to den. From the animal's viewpoint its the perfect place. It is safe from predators and fully insulated. Unfortunately for the home owner some of these animals are constantly chewing, either on the wood that makes up the frame of the home or even worse they may be chewing the insulation off the home owner's electrical wiring.
